What a Saturday

Well, technically I guess you have to go back to Friday. Abbie has had quite a cough for some time now. I would say she had a mild cold a few weeks back, and then sometime this week she developed this crazy I'm-an-old-man-who-has-smoked-my-whole-life cough. I mean, one of those that just hurts your chest to hear someone else cough that deeply. We treated it just as the phone nurse told us to...lots of fluids, some cough syrup, cold-mist humidifier, etc. But by Friday morning, it had not let up at all. So, per the phone nurse's instructions, I set Abbie up with an appointment with her pediatrician.

Abbie had actually not coughed much that night, that I heard, but I could tell by her bed head that she had likely not had a restful night.

So, I took Abbie in to see her pediatrician. This was the first time that I have been since she was really walking around all on her own, so I spent my time chasing her in the waiting room, begging her not to touch anything so I didn't have to chop off a limb...you know, all that fun stuff. After she threw a fit at her chest, ear, throat and nose inspection, it was confirmed that Abbie did not yet have bronchitis or walking pneumonia, but she did have a bacterial infection that tends to lead to one of those two. So, Abbie is not officially on her first ever antibiotic.

Which brings us to today. Abbie slept until 7:00, when she woke us up with that same loud, deep cough. She seemed well rested and ready to play, and the doctor did warn me that the cough would not be disappearing anytime soon, so I just planned to keep her at home to hopefully get some rest and hang out with me. Yay!

Abbie was drinking plenty of juice, water and milk and ate a HUGE breakfast, so I was ecstatic. (Her appetite had been lacking lately). Just as she and I working our way through breakfast, her daddy got called in to work. I'm not kidding you when I say not 5 minutes after he left, Abbie was running through our kitchen, with me begging her to slow down, and she tripped and smacked her head on the kitchen tile. She immediately took to crying so I scooped her up and yup, sure enough, her nose was bleeding. Again. This is the second time she has done this with me being the only one home with her. UGH!!!!!!!!!

I could tell immediately it was not nearly as bad as last time (Christmas Eve morning, no less), so I was trying to hold her down so I could stop the bleeding and I started crying. Abbie turned around at me, saw me crying, and started laughing at me. Of course that made me laugh and I knew she would be fine. Hopefully we will not have 2 black eyes in the morning. The only picture I took was later on during her snack to show her still slightly-bloodied nostril because she refused to let me get it all off. I eventually had to put her in the tub to get it all. Battle wounds:

You can still see a bit of a pink mark over her eyebrow in that second picture.

Abbie had quite a day. She seemed to suffer quite a few of the "possible side effects" of the antibiotic, which made for quite a day for me and her both. But she eventually took a long, late afternoon nap, and despite the initial crankiness, she seems to feel better.

Michael had plans tonight with some of his guy friends, so knowing that I was keeping Abbie indoors for the weekend, my mom came over to keep us company. We were all hanging out in Abbie's room and my mom asked if Abbie had any barrettes. Well, I'm not sure I can explain why, but this is what happened next.

Yup, we did that.

Um, that too.

She hardly looks like she minds.

I like to title this one, "Honey, don't even think about putting that hat on my head. That, ma'am, is where I draw the line."

And lastly, we finished off the evening playing with my new Wii Fit. Even Abbie got in on the action!

So, technically she is sick, but don't bother telling her that.
