OK, so I'm exaggerating. But this little girl of mine just cannot seem to make up her mind. Just when I think we are making progress, we regress a bit. No, not "we"...Abbie regresses.
So I have come to terms with the fact that Abbie will wake up once a night. I've even gotten used to it. And the more I read online and in magazines, and the more I listen to other moms, I have learned that Abbie is, dare I say, perfectly normal. Those with two-month-old babies that sleep through the night are lucky, but definitely not normal!
Sunday night I was certainly nervous to see how the night would play out. As I've mentioned previously, Monday was my first day back to work in three months. So I had her diaper bag backed, my clothes laid out, the coffee pot set to turn on at 6:00...you name it, it was ready! My husband and I discussed the game plan for the night and we agreed that he would get up with Abbie in the middle of the night and I would get up with her in the morning...assuming it would be around 6:00 AM or a little earlier. Our reasoning: my husband can fall back asleep in mere seconds while I take at least 30 minutes after getting up with her to fall back to sleep. Well, she fell asleep around 8:30, which is much later than she has been going to sleep lately, so I felt we were off to a good start. And she actually slept until around 3:30, which is great! Naturally, I had problems falling asleep, staying asleep, etc., so I woke up when she did as well, but I let my husband get up with her and I tried to fall back asleep. He returned within the hour, so I still felt everything was moving along nicely. My alarm on my cell phone went off at 6:00 and I bounced (yes, bounced) out of bed, ready to play with my little girl until we had to get ready to leave. I clicked on the video monitor and there was my little angel, sleeping soundly.
WHAT?!?!
The one morning she decides to sleep in is the one morning I am ready to play!!! But I knew better to wake her up, so I left her alone. I checked my email, drank coffee, got dressed...all while clicking the video on and off to see if she was even stirring. She did not budge until after 7:00. A day later and I still cannot believe it!
Well, I survived my day at work. Fortunately, my daughter is staying with my sister-in-law, who was kind enough to send me periodic emails with details about Abbie and even a few pictures! You cannot get that at daycare!!!
Now for the "steps back" part....last night was not nearly as wonderful as Sunday night. I knew it would not be, but that does not help me feel any more perky today. Abbie fell asleep again around 8:15, which is great, but she was wide awake and wailing at 12:30. She stayed up for an hour and then woke me up wailing once again around 4:00. Then came the problem child. She decided to stay awake until 6:00. She then only slept until 7:15 and did not take another nap until around 10:30. Maybe she just knew I'd be off today? Either way, I pray she does better tonight. Mommy's head still hurts!!!

Gotta love a baby!!! They know exactly how to keep you on your toes :)
I think Jackson started sleeping through the night around 3 months old. It was a blessing from Heaven!
