Well, I knew I was in for it last night when Abbie passed out (yes, passed out) at 7:10 PM. Ideally, I'd love for her to stay up until 10 or 11 so her 5-6 hours of sleep will be put to better use, but no such luck! Her doctor said not to fight her natural bedtime, and so I don't...I just secretly wish and pray!
I gave her a bath at 6:30, which is pretty standard now. And let me tell you, her bath experience is now totally different than it used to be!! She used to scream during her sponge baths before her umbilical cord stump fell off and I was just sure she would love a real bath once I could do that, but no way! She screamed in her adorable little Rainforest tub too!!! I'll post some pictures later to prove my point.
I should say, on my daughter's behalf, she had a horrifying experience for her first bath ever. Barely an hour after she was born, the nurses took her from my labor/delivery room to clean/bathe her, weigh her, etc. I later was told that the hospital was out of hot water due to some construction going on. That's right, no hot water!!! Apparently, my angel was bathed in freezing water!!! I was told lukewarm water would be running over her head when suddenly the water would turn ice cold and the nurse would pull Abbie out, but she would scream every single time!
Today, I'm proud to say, she loves her bath! I have an entire routine down, including a warmed towel and pajamas that Daddy is in charge of getting just before I pull her out, which she really enjoys. Technically, she hates the transition to and from the bath, but while she is laying there, the girl is relaxed!!! My husband and I swore we would video her screaming in the bath one day, but we are too late...she screams no more.
So, back to last night. I get her out of the bath and into her warmed pajamas. She had not had a bottle in a few hours and she was rooting around a bit, so I placed her in her bouncy seat while I prepared a bottle. Merely minutes later, I turned back around to see her passed out in the seat. And it was all of 7:10 PM. I went to unlatch her and pick her up, hoping it would wake her up, but no such luck. The kid was OUT! I took her to her Daddy for a quick peck on the cheek and went to put her in bed. I sent my mom an email telling her I was in for a rough night!
So, she slept until 12:30 and I laid her back down at 1:00...I'm not sure when she fell back to sleep, but she did not wake me back up again until 4:00. Now from 4:00 on, the child was ready to play! She tried to entice me with smiles and grins, but I cannot be persuaded at such an hour! I repeatedly put her back in her crib, lullabies playing, fan buzzing, lights out....and she repeatedly grunted, cooed, cried, and yes, even screamed. I gave up the good fight by 6, which is her standard rise-and-shine time.
My husband warned me she would be a morning baby. She gets that from him!!! He is the only person I know to bounce out of bed (I don't bounce before noon...if at all!). He drives me nuts with all his whistling, singing, humming...what in the world is there to be so happy about before the sun is even good and up?!?! And now I have a daughter who is just like him in the mornings. But ironically, fights her sleep during the night, much like her mother! Does the child not realize she has to pick a side???
