Just Beachy

Abbie and I just got home this afternoon from a four-day trip to Sandestin with my mom. My mom had a conference there and since her hubby was working this week, Miss Abigail and I tagged along. Free trip to the beach? Don't mind if I do.

I will admit that I was extraordinarily nervous to find out how Abbie would do overall. I mean, my mom would be spending over half her days in a conference room so it would just be me with Abbie. If she and I were home, no problem. But three hours away from home? New environment? Hotel room? No crib? No Daddy? No 8 million toys with us? I mean, there was only so much we could fit in the car!!!!! And did I mention no Daddy????

I am thoroughly exhausted, I will admit that. I mean, it was not exactly relaxing, but still fun.

Abbie loved to get up in the morning and watch the pool from our room. The pool was HUGE and we had a great view of it from our room, but try convincing a 20-month-old child that it is only 6:30 am and the pool does not open for another hour and a half!

Yes, she is wearing long-sleeve pajamas AND socks inside our room in July, but I cannot put into words how cold my mother keeps the temperature. FRIGID!

I could not resist showing the difference in Abbie's feet after our first trip to the beach....

...versus my feet.

Can you tell I ended up carrying Abbie on the way back from the beach? Yeah, Abbie HATED the sand. Well, that is not entirely true. She actually danced on the wet, firm part of the sand at first, but the first time that water came up high enough to cover her feet, she became hysterical screaming her head off, so we went back to the pool. She LOVED playing with all her sand pails at the pool. Go figure!!

She kept filling up the pail with water and then she would stir it up with all her little tools. She had a blast each day going back and forth from the kiddie pool and the grown-up one. However, it requires constant attention on my part because she now thinks she can just walk off into the big pool without any assistance.

I know, this is pretty pitiful, but it is really the only picture I could quickly snap of her on the beach. Did I mention that she hated it?

As for watching movies in the DVD player in the car, Abbie was all for it!

Jackson hated the sand his first time at the beach, but last year he was much better.

And yeah, once you add a child to the beach vacation, all relaxation attempts go out the window!

At least she loved the pool!
